ACTRA Montreal’s performance awards celebration took place on May 4 at Le Gesù. The Award for Outstanding Performance Female was presented to Katy Breier for her role in FANatic and the Award for Outstanding Performance Male was presented to Neil Napier for his work in The Disappearance. Catherine Kidd picked up the Award for Outstanding Videogame Performance Female for her work in For Honor and Julian Casey the Outstanding Videogame Performance Male for his work in We Happy Few. Michael Scherer won the Outstanding Stunt Performance Award for his performance in XXX: Return of Xander Cage. Lucinda Davis won the Outstanding Voice Performance Female for her role in Racetime and Brian Froud the Outstanding Voice Performance Male Award for his work in Zafari. Eramelinda Boquer, ACTRA Montreal’s 2019 Woman of the Year, was recognized for her achievements in advocacy and the arts. Life Memberships were presented to past Councillors Dawn Ford and Bill Rowat. Jay Baruchel was presented with the 2019 ACTRA National Award of Excellence on March 16 in Los Angeles. Jay co-wrote and starred in the film Goon for which he was nominated for two 2013 Canadian Screen Awards in the Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay categories. He co-wrote and made his directorial debut with the Goon sequel, Goon: Last of the Enforcers, in which he also reprised his role as ‘Pat.’ Jay starred in Jacob Tierney’s comedy The Trotsky, which premiered at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews and earned him a Genie Award nomination. His many credits include Knocked Up, This Is The End, Tropic Thunder, Million Dollar Baby and the FXX comedy series Man Seeking Woman. Jay won the 2019 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for his role as ‘Hiccup’ in the DreamWorks production Dragons: Race to the Edge. actra.ca

The Rosie Awards, presented annually by the Alberta Media Production Industries Association, celebrate excellence and outstanding achievement in Alberta film, TV and new media. Amber Marshall won the award for Best Performance by an Alberta Actress for her role in Heartland and Greg Lawson the award for Best Performance by an Alberta Actor for his work in Wynonna Earp. Anne with an E, based on the classic novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery, won seven Canadian Screen Awards throughout the week, tying the crime drama series Cardinal for the most wins overall. Cardinal actors Billy Campbell and Karine Vanasse won Best Lead Drama/Limited Series Actor and Actress awards for their roles in Cardinal. The Best Lead Comedy Actress award was presented toCatherine O’Hara for her performance in Schitt’s Creek. The Best Lead Comedy Actor award wentJared Keeso for his work in Letterkenny. Mary Walsh received the Earle Grey Award for her exceptional work and impact on our industry. Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson, whose CBC comedy series The Kids in the Hall aired from 1989 to 1995, received the Academy Icon Award for making waves globally. Long careers were rewarded with big awards from UBCP/ACTRA on May 9, 2019. Danny Virtue was presented with the Sam Payne Lifetime Achievement Award and P. Lynn Johnson with the Sam Payne Award. Danny Virtue has been a staple in the B.C. film and TV industry for over 40 years and has amassed a resume with more than 150 titles. He was nominated for a SAG Award for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble for his work in War for thePlanet of the Apes. Danny has two Leo Award wins and one Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in the feature Gunless. He also has two Gemini nominations for his work in Neon Rider. In 2002, Danny founded the Virtue Foundation, which raises awareness and helps kids who are physically, mentally or financially challenged. P. Lynn Johnson’s 100-plus credits include the series’ Blade: The Series, The L Word, The Outer Limits and The X Files. Her feature credits include Godzilla, The Invisible, An Unfinished Life and Final Destination. A drama teacher since the late 1980s, P. Lynn has tirelessly supported the development of Canadian talent. She has served as an acting instructor at Capilano University for the past 16 years. P. Lynn’s support and mentorship of alumni goes far beyond the classroom and includes her volunteer work in producing, coaching and acting in many independent and short features. ubcp.com
